Visiting

We extend a warm welcome to visitors and newcomers.  We will be happy to see you and eager to make you feel comfortable and welcome at First Parish.  You will find people wearing blue "Ask Me" buttons just inside either entrance and throughout the congregation.  These "greeters" will be glad to help you find your way.  They also have a supply of name tags, guides to programs at First Parish, and other information that you may be looking for.  Please sign our visitor book if you feel comfortable doing so.

If you like what you find at First Parish, please also fill out a welcome card, which you can find in the pews or get from a greeter.  Return the card to a greeter, place it in the offering basket, or mail it back to First Parish to help us to get to know you and understand what you are looking for.  We hope that you will join us after the service for coffee and conversation in the Parish Hall, directly behind the sanctuary.

Sunday services typically include music, a time for the community to share joys and sorrows, spoken and silent meditation, singing of hymns, readings, and a sermon. There is no kneeling. The service leader(s) will invite the congregation to stand and sit for hymns and the unison affirmation. The unison affirmation is spoken by the congregation early on in the service:

Love is the doctrine of this church
The quest for truth is its sacrament and service is its prayer
This is our great covenant:
To dwell together in peace,
To seek the truth in love,
and to help one another
to the end that all souls shall grow into harmony with the divine

Children

Sunday school is active most of the year and visiting children can always be accommodated.  In depth information about First Parish Sunday School is available online or by contacting Ms. Lynne Weygint, Director of Religious Education .

Child care is available for younger children from 10:15 until 11:45 AM during the services. Ask a greeter or usher for help getting your small child to child care. Your child is always welcome to stay with you during the worship service.
