Our Whole Lives for Adults The Our Whole Lives for Adults (OWL) program is a series of participatory workshops offering a wide range of interesting discussions and other activities designed to present information, deepen understanding and encourage communication about sexuality. As its name implies, this UUA/UCC curriculum is designed with adults in mind but it is based on the same fundamental principles as the other OWL programs that First Parish has run for our children in grades 5-6 and our middle school teens in grades 7-8. If space permits we will offer this program to others in a local church and town communities. The topics we will cover are wide and varied and include such things as: Considering Values, Celebrating Sexuality, Islam and Sexuality, Messages about Masturbation, Was it Rape, Sex is Not So Sexy Anymore, Three Perspectives on Pornography, Sexuality and Aging. Each of these will be framed in the context of what the program defines as our Sexual Being: Sensuality, Intimacy, Sexual Identity, Sexual Health and Sexualization. The series is designed to advance communication about sexuality, promote safe sexual practices, build understanding of healthy sexual relationships, advance the causes of tolerance and justice, and to help participants accept, understand and affirm their own sexuality. No assumptions will be made about any participant’s sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual history or practices. We expect everyone to be in different stages of relationship. Newly in love perhaps, or in a long committed relationship. Some may be in an unhealthy relationship while others may be trying to start all over again. Some may be preparing themselves to talk with their children about their sexuality, others may be considering teaching one of the other OWL programs. The 13-session program offers an opportunity for a safe and effective learning environment with others. Join our trained facilitators, Margaret Dykeman, Rodney Lowe, and Laura Tully to discuss these questions about sexuality in a safe supportive environment. The program is limited to 16 participants to create a comfortable setting.
