Family Activities & Events
An integral part of religious education at First Parish is the community building activities and events that are included in each year. A strong and active faith community is the cornerstone of any healthy congregation, and First Parish Lexington is committed to nurturing bonds already established, and building new friendships within our church family. Here are an assortment of community activities that help us to get to know one another better.
First Sunday Potlucks
First Sunday potlucks are held on the first Sunday of the month, after coffee hour in Parker Hall. There is also a special table set up for folks who are celebrating a birthday that month with cake, etc. Children and youth receive an invitation in the mail to sit at this special table.
December Craft Party
This annual craft party is held the first Saturday of December, and is designed to slow down your holiday season. Parker Hall is filled with activities such as cookie decorating, Christmas decoration making and more.
Game Nights
Usually sponsored by the RG&L Committee, these game nights are typically held twice a year, and include snacks, pizza, and all your favorite board games.
Pajama Parties
Also sponsored by the RG&L Committee, these are intended for our youngest children and their families. Children are invited to come in their favorite pjs, enjoy a tummy warming snack, and listen to stories old and new.
Sing-Alongs
Occasional hymn-sings in the sanctuary are planned each year. Additionally, a come as you are, all ages welcome family choir learns a musical selection at 9:30 am on the fourth Sunday of the month, then sings it during that days worship service.
Special Friends
This program begins a few weeks before Valentines Day and is a fun way to share little surprises (whimsical gifts or poetry, etc.) anonymously with another parishioner. On the Sunday before Valentines Day, identities are revealed at a special party for participants.
Off-Site Trips
In the winter of 2008-2009, we hope to re-institute an intergenerational retreat to Friendly Crossways in Harvard, MA. At this farmland retreat we ski, snowshoe, and lounge in front of the fire in a most lazy way. Over Memorial Day weekend, many First Parishioners retreat to Ferry Beach, a UU conference center in Saco, ME. Click here for more details about Ferry Beach.
Social Action
The Social Action Committee has many opportunities for parishioners to join others in outreach, and each year co-sponsors several Social Action Sundays offered to 2-8th graders.
